rbi: reviving baseball in inner cities

John Young, a former Major League Baseball player and scout, developed the concept of RBI to provide disadvantaged youth an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball. Mr. Young decided that the best way to revive baseball in South Central LA would be to introduce a comprehensive youth baseball program for 13- to 16-year-olds. This program would not only encourage participation in baseball and expand the pool of talented prospects, but, more importantly, it would provide young people with a positive, team-oriented activity that would keep them off the streets while challenging them mentally and physically.

RBI Regional Tournament:

Puerto Rico 2022

After a series of games in Rivas, Nicaragua managed to secured themselves a spot for the RBI's Regional Tournament in Salinas, Puerto Rico.

A fundraiser was started to be able to take the team and cover the costs of the whole trip.

The Dreamers took a road trip from Rivas, Nicaragua to San Salvador, then two flights and a bus drive to get to Albergue Olimpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico; making it a 48-hr trip.

And against all odds, they got to the final versus the home team, Puerto Rico. Take a look at the video below to find out more!

RBI World Series:                         Vero Beach 2022

After their win in Puerto Rico, the team needed to get ready to travel once again to Vero Beach, FL. A full week at Jackie Robinson Training Complex was filled with games, conferences, training and fun by the MLB-RBI team.

Two wins against Chicago Cubs and Williamsport secured the team their spot at the semifinals, also achieving first place of the Junior Baseball World Category!

They played like never before, enjoying every part of the game, but lost against the White Sox in a nail biting game, 7-5.

"I feel very grateful for this opportunity, this way we can accomplish our dreams." — Benjamin Torres

We also took the opportunity of delivering new equipment to the team. Complete catcher gears, spikes, gloves and new balls for practice. You can find out more in this video and article below that the MLB posted about the organization.

Improving lives through baseball

Every year we bring baseball equipment and provide instruction to youth in rural Nicaraguan communities. Baseball has a unique ability to both bring together different cultures and teach life lessons helping to provide a foundation on which to improve lives.
